Medicare for Seniors

The Annual Election Period (AEP) for Medicare runs annually from October 15th-December 7th. During this time, you can make any changes to your coverage, including medical and prescription. You must have both Part A and Part B to enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan or a Medicare Supplement Plan. The new premium for Part B beginning in 2019 for most people will remain around $134 per month. This premium applies to new Medicare beneficiaries who are:

• Enrolling in Medicare Part B for the first time in 2019
• Not currently receiving Social Security benefits
• Being billed directly for their Part B premiums
• Eligible for Medicare and Medicaid (Dual Eligibility)
• Or have had a modified adjust gross income (AGI) reported on their tax return 2 years ago and is above a certain amount

It is always a good idea to review your coverage each year to make sure that both your medical and prescription coverage are adequate for the upcoming year. Some Medicare plans have annual changes to their benefits each year, while others plans benefits may stay the same, they are not without an increase in their monthly premium costs from time to time.

Prescription drug coverage can be the same. They have changes to their monthly premiums, changes to their formulary and changes to how your prescriptions will be covered. Because of this, it is best to have prescription needs reviewed annually.
